From Saint Girons

From the flat part of the former railway, small roads and forest tracks will take you to the "Serre d'Eychenne", offering you splendid views over the Pyrenees.

Maps : Randonnées Pyrénéennes n°6 Couserans, au 1/50000.
I.G.N. n°2047 OT Saint Girons, au 1/25000.
Recommanded seasons : spring, autumn (wet periods to be avoided).
Difficulty : no particular difficulty on dry ground.
Total Distance : 34 km.
Total ascent : about 600 m.
In short : on dry ground, a ride without any technical difficulties.


Departure point : Parc des Expositions in Saint Girons (396 m), South-East of the town, along the ring road

• 0,0 km Saint Girons fair ground. Follow the ring road in the northerly direction.
• 1,5 Before the bridge over the Baup River, turn right onto a small road (South-East).
• 2,0 On the right (South), pass the road to Sales and cross the bridge on the South-East side.
• 2,1 Go down a track on the left (fences at the field entrance and exit) to join the former railroad (yellow sign) that is to be followed until getting to the outskirts of Rimont.
• 3,1 On the left, you’ll get very near to the D117 from Saint Girons to Foix.
• 8,7 To the left, go round the former Lescure railway station (444 m altitude). Then join the former railroad (yellow sign).
• 12,7 Getting to a road coming from Rimont, turn right (South) and pass under the railroad bridge. At the Combelongue Abbey, turn left twice (South-East, then East) and walk up the small road to Pladellac.
• 15,0 Le Pladellac (604 m). End tarred road. Cross the hamlet and, South-East, start walking up the forest that is marked by blue dots.
• 16,2 At a 680 m altitude, pass a junction on the left (North).
• 16,4 Bifurcation (690 m altitude) : continue straight ahead (South-West) onto the track that is closed to the traffic « unless right holders ».
• 17,5 At an 800 m altitude, leave the good forest track by walking up a former skid trail on the left (blue dots). A steep climb for about 800 m. Continue straight ahead (South-West) following the blue dots.
• 18,6 Ridge (951 m) : on the right (West), take a former ridge track marked by blue dots.
• 19,2 La Coué Rouge (971 m). Go down North-West until getting to the forest track. Continue following the ridge line (blue dots and yellow PDR lines). The track goes up to Rock of Castillon (939 m altitude). It then drops down to the forest track. Follow the track, either at the ridge or on its left slope.
• 25,9 Crossroad of the Touron cross (755 m). Les predators will turn right (N.E) onto the access road to the Gay farm … without really going there.
• 26,3 Take the track on the left (South-West) and continue following the northern slope.
• 27,4 Walk up the yellow marked path on the left (above the Tourounets barns). At the top of the field, after the fence, go down the marked path.
• 30,0 Cross a road (600 m) and follow the path that heads North-West.
• 31,6 Crossroad (595 m). Turn left (West). The road goes down.
• 34,0 Saint Girons fair ground.
