Regional Nature Park - Ariege-PyreneesIn the west part of the Ariège department, the Regional Nature Park - Ariege - Pyrenees brings together the highest summits of the andorran and spanish borders (la Pique d'Estats, 3144m altitude, The Mount Valier 2838m altitude...) and the lower valley floors, up to the folding of the PLantaurel massif. On 2500 square meters, the 142 municipalities of the Park gather 43 000 inhabiatants who are taking part in the development and the preservation of this exceptional territory.

A Regional Nature Park, what for?

The purpose of a Regional Nature Park is to conserve the environment, to support an economic development, to inform visitors and inhabitants, to help acting for a sustainable development and to experiment. The park provides support and advice to municipalities and individuals and mobilizes additional funds.

Varied landscapes :

Different mountain ranges clearly divide the territory into three different zones: the mountains, the foot of the mountains and the hills.



An exceptional natural heritage :

The Park is home to a wide selection of remarkable, endemic or threatened species, such as Bearded and Egyptian vultures, Galemys pyrenaicus, Capercallies and Izards (wild goats). Furthermore, 1800 flower species and 2900 types pf mushrooms are identified in the Park.

Tourist Inns and B & B's : 

Along with the Nature Park, 50 hosts have engaged in creating sustainable accommodation, which means respecting local architecture and natural environment as well as water- and energy-saving accommodations.

The "Maisons du Parc" :

In order to promote the territory's natural and cultural resources, the Regional Nature Park - Ariège - Midi-Pyrénées has chosen to run a network of host sites and proposes a program of "Park" events that are listed in the "Pyrénées Partagées" leaflet, available in all Couserans tourist information offices.

La maison du Parc des Pyrénées Ariégeoises, is located in Montels, along the N 117 road, and hosts the Park's technical team.

The tourist information offices of Foix and Saint-Girons are information centre about the Park.


La Maison du Valier maison valieris a holiday lodge that is located in the beautiful Riberot Valley, at the foot of the Mount Valier. Excellent meals prepared with local products can be taken.

L’Ecomusée d’Alzen is a farm with local breed cattle. It proposes farm visits, meals from farm products, educational activities, trainings and construction projects.

Le Pays des traces site is dedicated to the science of footprints, also called ichnology. One can enjoy a museum space, temporay exhibitions, workshops and playful and educational circuits.

terroirs plantaurelLes Terroirs du Plantaurel, site is specialized in producing and processing duck meat. Its products are available in a shop on site. Groups are welcome.

The Castle of Seix is a  an interpretation centre of the mountain environment and it so offers you the keys to understanding the Pyrenean territory.

L’Etang de Lers is a natural lake at 1264m altitude which offers you hiking, fishing and wintersports possibilities. Its rare rock species, such as olivine and lherzolite, draw the attention of many scientists.

Le Barri, maison des Patrimoines (house of heritages) in Auzat is an interpretation centre dealing with anthroposation of the mountain environment. In order to understand this valley that is marked by its mining past, the house proposes exhibitions, conferences, arhaeological research and theme trails.
